Fatherland, Motherland: Fatherland
The first instalment of a performance diptych, Fatherland is a gentle ethnographic investigation into place, belonging, authenticity and identity, home and homelands and further understanding the edges of oneself in relation to where you come from. Born to her Scottish father in Glasgow, where she later lived as an adult, Fatherland asks: How do we carry the places that are part of us?
This work draws on the cultural and environmental landscape of her fatherland: the cathartic, intoxicating dances of the terra firma; the ancient warrior women painted and wild; the sadness of the songs, lost and forgotten and the complex psycho-geography of this land.
Nic aims to complete the Fatherland, Motherland series this year.
