Chair Piece(s)
A five-week durational public & personal performance experiment taking place in the city of Glasgow.
Chair Piece(s) was born out of a sudden stagnancy, isolation and separation with regards to making solo performance work. Instead a bentwood chair (a physical reminder of the studio in which the artist worked), was carried outside of it's confines and remained with the artist for five and a half weeks, becoming integrated into her day to day life. In turn, the action began to change the shape and pattern of every aspect of this living, resulting in a high level of interaction with the public. Partway through this process, the people of Glasgow were invited to also carry a chair for an event simply titled 'Chair Happening'.
In some instances, the process dissolved separtions between people sharing space and place, between connectedness and isolation, between art and life.
At the end of the five weeks, a performance which detailed the process was delivered to an invited audience, before the chair was destroyed, being broken down into its smallest components.
